STATE OF WASHINGTON
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
P.O. Box 40002 l Olympia, Washington

Tuesday, January 9, 2007

Dear friends;

Earlier this evening I delivered my annual State of the State address to our legislators and all Washingtonians, outlining my vision for education, health care and the economy, and highlighting some of the great work that, together, we have accomplished over the past year.

With your help, we have made real progress and we are changing the way we do business. Today we see hope, opportunity and steady progress toward a secure future. Together we are fighting for change that is responsible and demands accountability and we are providing the solutions Washington families deserve.

Together we have fought for change – responsible change. You demanded accountability - and the results are clear.

Thousands of children will have a better shot at life thanks to a new emphasis on early learning. We promised to provide health care to more children than ever before – and we delivered. We promoted investments in renewable energy and green buildings and we curbed auto emissions. More people are working – 155,000 new jobs were created in the last two years and, together, we have taken steps to help forest land owners and farmers.

Tonight I also reminded legislators that our work is not done. We have turned the corner but there is still plenty to do and we cannot “rest on our laurels!” In too many cases, we are using 20th century tools to solve 21st century problems, and nothing short of change will allow us to produce a future that Washington families can count on.

I invite you to read through the rest of the speech on my website.

Thank you for your support and for your dedication to the families of Washington.

Sincerely,

Chris Gregoire
Governor
