Friends of Fircrest participated in the Shoreline parade and Festival on August 21, 2004. As an attention getter, a number of special dogs joined the Fircrest marchers in the parade. .
Protest Rally at Lacey, WA
Fircrest supporters staged a protest and rally on July 6, 2004, in Lacey, WA, during a DSHS hearing on a proposal to make permanent the “Christmas Eve rule” that allowed moving residents from Fircrest without a hearing. .

Forced Moves of Residents
On February 25, 2004, the Department of Social and Health Services moved four residents from their long-time home at Fircrest to Rainier School in Buckley. Three were moved without approval of their guardians. A court challenge failed to prevent the move. Additional residents were forcibly moved on March 1, 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, and 22.
